Who Are We?
The MFMQ Group was born in March 2020 during the earliest stages of the CORONAVIRUS pandemic. During these uncertain times, Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialists from the various academic institutions in Quebec , namely the Universities of Sherbrooke, Montréal, Laval, and McGill, gathered virtually at regular intervals to discuss our individual experiences and to evaluate the various protocols in order to establish a course of action for all maternity care providers in Quebec. As a consequence of the strength of this union, the first provincial clinical protocols were developed and disseminated, notably a protocol for the management of pregnant women with COVID-19 and for those with severe illness requiring intensive care management. This alliance also led to the establishment of a research database to promote learning which will ultimately guide management during subsequent waves of the pandemic. As a result of effective teamwork, an official Quebec MFM group was created that applies these same principles to other issues thereby promoting our specialty to physicians, our clients, the public and the media.
