Membership categories
The Board of Directors to confirm your status. A CV could be requested if needed.
The MFMQ has two (2) categories of members, namely: regular members and participating members.
1) Regular members
Activities of the MFMQ and who meets all of the following admission criteria is admissible as a regular member of the MFMQ:
1. Be an expert obstetrician-gynecologist who has completed either:
a. additional training of a minimum of two (2) years in MFM accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), the American Board Of Obstetrics and Gynecology (subspeciality of maternal fetal medicine) (ABOG) or the equivalent recognized by the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ) or by the board of directors.
b. training not certified before the year 2000 and recognized by the board of directors.
2. Be an expert physician in MFM and member of a clinical department of MFM in Quebec that offers integrated treatments for high-risk maternal and/or fetal conditions, including advanced specialized obstetric ultrasound, fetal therapy and all management of pregnancy requiring an multidisciplinary approach.
3. Be a specialist in MFM whose activities are devoted to the care of patients with a maternal or fetal complication and/or to referral activities from another obstetrician-gynecologist, a radiologist, a doctor family or a midwife for maternal or fetal conditions with high morbidity potential or involving complex medical problems, requiring the expertise of the MFM specialist.
4. Be an MFM specialist involved in developing knowledge and improving the practice of MFM through research and/or teaching.
Regular members in good standing have the right to participate in all MFMQ activities, to receive notices of meetings of members, to attend these meetings and to vote. They are also eligible to be on the board of directors of the MFMQ.
2) Participating members
1. Participating Associate Members: Be, as the case may be:
i) an obstetrician-gynecologist who has completed additional training in high-risk pregnancy of one (1) year, not certified nor recognized according to the admission criteria for regular members
ii) a medical specialist with qualifications in obstetrics and gynecology, radiology, pediatrics or a related discipline with a keen interest in MFM;
or
iii) a physician who meets the admission criteria for a regular member provided for in paragraph a) of this article, except that s/he does not practice in Quebec.
2. Participating Junior Members: Be a trainee in a MFM fellowship program or obstetrics and gynecology residency program under the authority of the College of Physicians of Quebec (CMQ), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) or equivalent recognized by the Board of Directors. The title of Participating Junior Member is awarded for the duration of residency and/or MFM fellowship programs.
3. Participating Emeritus / Retired Members: To be or to have been a regular member who has now completely abandoned the active practice of his discipline but wants to remain a member of the MFMQ and who has significantly contributed to the advancement of his discipline.
4. Participating Honorary Members: Any individual, interested in the goals and activities of the MFMQ, who is not a regular member and to whom the MFMQ wishes to award this title in recognition of an exceptional contribution to the development of the MFM specialty, is eligible as an honorary member of the MFMQ.
Participating members have the right to participate in all MFMQ activities, to receive notices of meetings of members and to attend these meetings, but have no voting rights. They are not eligible to be on the board of directors of the MFMQ.
